Broadway Bailey Goes To High School

Bailey Hanks, the talented young lady who made her Broadway debut in Legally Blonde thanks to the MTV reality show "The Search For Elle Woods," had the misfortune to learn that her Broadway run would end not long after it began, due to Blonde's impending closure on October 19. However, Bailey will bounce back quickly - not to Broadway this time, but to New Jersey. She will be playing Sharpay in the upcoming Paper Mill Playhouse production of that teenybopper sensation, High School Musical, opening in early November.

Legally Blonde To Close On Broadway 10/19

The bad economy appears to be taking a heavy toll on Broadway. In just a week's time we've had closing announcements from Xanadu and [title of show], and now comes the word that Legally Blonde will have its final Broadway performance on October 19. Although the musical (based on the popular film of the same name) has managed okay during its year and a half run, Legally Blonde has had to resort to some high profile stunts in order to maintain ticket sales, such as participating in the MTV reality TV series "The Search for Elle Woods". Legally Blonde will close at Broadway's Palace Theater on October 19 having played 595 performances.

Bailey Is Broadway's Newest Blonde

The MTV reality series Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods concluded last night, and the winner is Bailey Hanks! The bubbly 20-year old narrowly beat out the more experienced (and better-voiced) Autumn Hurlbert, who didn't do quite as well at capturing Elle's sorority girl sweetness. Both young ladies got to do their final audition with the Legally Blonde cast on the stage of the Palace Theatre, so director Jerry Mitchell was able to get a real sense of how they would perform in the show. We TV viewers did too and, considering how green a lot of the contestants appeared in the early stages of the MTV reality show, it was a relief to see that both winner Bailey and runner-up Autumn (who will be the Elle understudy on Broadway) performed quite well in the demanding role. The contest was actually decided months ago, so both have had ample time to continue training. With star Laura Bell Bundy having departed on Sunday, Bailey debuts on Broadway in Legally Blonde tomorrow, July 23. Meanwhile, contestants Rhiannon Hansen and Lauren Zakrin will join the cast of the Legally Blonde national tour.

K-Fed To Deliver On Broadway???

US Magazine is reporting today that Britney Spears' ex, Kevin Federline, is in talks to join the Broadway cast of Legally Blonde. Federline would be playing the role of the hunky UPS man, originated by Andy Karl. Broadway is notorious for its stunt casting, but casting a guy who is best known as the father of a famous pop star's two children is slightly unusual. Nothing's definite yet, though. Stay tuned ...

"Karaoke" Legally Blonde Broadcast on MTV Tonight

The Broadway production of Legally Blonde may be on strike-imposed hiatus right now, but fans can catch it on MTV tonight when the network re-broadcasts its live taping of the show at 8pm Eastern/Standard time tonight. This broadcast of the Broadway musical is extra special, though, because it will have the song lyrics streaming at the bottom of the screen. So you can beat the Broadway strike blues this Thanksgiving by singing along -- it'll be like having a Broadway show in your own living room! (Sort of.)
